Ceramicists from across Australia are now invited to compete for a major acquisitive prize of $10,000 in the North Queensland Ceramic Awards.
The prestigious awards and connected exhibition at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery are open to established and emerging artists from around the nation.
Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the awards were a celebration of the diversity of ceramic art produced in Australia.
"The biennial North Queensland Ceramic Awards always attract a high standard of pottery from local, state-wide and national artists," Cr Greaney said.
"We're now calling for entries into the upcoming exhibition. It's important to remember that this exhibition is not just for professional artists – we want to see entries from emerging artists from across the country.
"The City of Townsville Art Collection Award is the major acquisitive prize and is worth $10,000, providing artists the opportunity to become a part of one of the nation's most significant ceramic collections.
"The North Queensland Ceramic Awards is another example of Council's support of Townsville's arts scene and the city's standing as a major tourism and cultural destination.
"Applications for the upcoming awards close on 16 July, so head to Council's website to submit your application to be considered for exhibition."
The North Queensland Ceramic Awards will run from 18 October this year to 2 February next year at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery and is proudly presented by Townsville City Council in partnership with the North Queensland Potters Association.
