Ice Hockey Victoria, together with O'Brien Icehouse Docklands, hosted a Bushfire Appeal game between the Melbourne Mustangs and the Melbourne Ice on 19 January 2020.
Deputy Chief Officer Garry Cook and Captain of the Kalorama Fire Brigade, Michael Motteram, were invited to commence the match with a ceremonial puck drop.
The match was played in front of a sold out crowd of 1600 spectators, who showed their respect ahead of the match with a minute of applause.
The puck was custom designed to acknowledge the firefighting efforts of those who have worked tirelessly across Australia this summer.
Commemorative hockey pucks and player jerseys were auctioned off to fans with all proceeds going to bushfire relief, as well as a raffle and entry fees which combined to raise a total of $41,100.
