Country Fire Authority (CFA) brigades across Victoria have opened their hearts for the Good Friday Appeal and helped raise $198,259 through the Appeal's Virtual Tin Shake website.
More than 200 CFA brigades registered their support online in lieu of traditional fundraising events and being out and about rattling tins, which could not go ahead as usual due to physical distancing guidelines in relation to the current pandemic.
CFA has been a passionate supporter of the Good Friday Appeal since 1951 and was proud to be able to contribute once again in 2020.
Members of the community showed their unmatched generosity during this tough time, making more than 4400 donations to the virtual brigade funds.
CFA CEO and Chief Officer Steve Warrington congratulated all involved with this year's appeal.
"This year has been like no other, brigades have had to adapt to fundraising virtually and I would like to thank each and every CFA member who has supported the appeal throughout these unprecedented times."
"Thank you to all Victorians that have got behind their local CFA brigade to donate, another amazing year of fundraising."
By 9pm on Good Friday, 10 April, the Appeal had raised $8.4 million before the Victorian Government announced it would pitch in to help match last year's tally so that the children at the Royal Children's Hospital would not have to go without, bringing the final tally to $18.2 million.
This year has been tough for many Victorian communities and it's understood people may not have been in a position to make the same donation they usually would to the Appeal.
Despite this, Victorians have rallied together for the cause and raised an impressive tally for the Royal Children's Hospital.
Over many years of support, CFA members have raised more than $34 million for the Good Friday Appeal to help the Royal Children's Hospital provide world-class care to our kids. Last year, CFA raised $1.6 million for the appeal.
CFA thank all Victorians and beyond who showed their support for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal 2020 and chose to Give for the Kids.
