Fair Work Commission Order –
CFMEU Manufacturing Division Demerger Ballot
The National Secretary of the Manufacturing Division of the CFMEU Mr Michael O'Connor has welcomed the Fair Work Commision's issuing of Orders for a demerger ballot to take place between February 24th to April 14th 2025.
"We have fought tooth and nail to ensure that our members were given the democratic right to determine their own futurethrough a secret ballot and now we have achieved it."
The successful application for a demerger ballot came after the Manufacturing Division lobbied to have the Fair Work Act amended to specifically allow the Manufacturing Division to make an application for a demerger.
Our Division wants to thank the Government and the then Minister Tony Burke for agreeing to the legislation and Senator Lambie who fought tooth and nail to give our members a say on their future.
With the Mining and Energy Union leaving the CFMEU in December 2023, the Manufacturing Division is expecting to also see a successful vote to leave.
"The overwhelming majority of our members want nothing to do with the toxic culture of the Construction Division of the CFMEU and we expect the YES vote to be carried with a big majority" said Mr O'Connor.
The Manufacturing Division has withstood an attack on its membership and well-financed interference in its elections from the Construction Division in recent years.
