Changes At Timboon Transfer Station During Upgrade

A temporary site will be set up next to the Timboon Transfer station while it is upgraded for safety, efficiency and convenience.

Users will be able to follow the signs to an alternative site where they can drop off waste, recycling, glass and steel. Green waste will also be accepted ahead of fire season.

For other types of waste, such as e-waste and chemical drums, residents are asked to go to Naroghid landfill or the Simpson or Port Campbell transfer station.

Timboon will be closed for about four months from Wednesday 6 November.

Environment Projects Officer Jess Maxwell said the $700,000 upgrade would provide a safe and sustainable interface for waste and resource recovery.

"The project will create a one-way traffic flow and minimise crossing of vehicles," Ms Maxwell said.

"The works will increased capacity for collecting materials so recyclables don't end up in landfill.

"The ground will be relevelled to improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians and to protect the existing infrastructure for another 20 or 30 years.

"The new layout will be more easily adapted to future site changes and legislation."

The project will

  • refurbish the retaining wall;
  • increase the number of waste streams that can be collected;
  • reduce the slope of site;
  • decrease risks of falls or collisions; and
  • improve stormwater drainage
  • incorporating best practice standards for resource recovery centres.
