On 15 December 2021, Minister Stephen Dawson MLC made a Brief Ministerial Statement in Parliament advising that the Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws will come into effect in March 2022. Originally scheduled for January 2022, the new laws will bring together work health and safety for general industry, mines and petroleum and geothermal operations under a single WHS Act.
Draft WHS regulations
Drafting the WHS regulations for all three sectors has been a very complex process. The Government has allocated significant resources to the drafting process and now expects to have draft copies of the WHS regulations (referred to as 'exposure drafts') for the three sectors online and publicly available in late December on the Department's website.
Copies of the WHS Regulations exposure drafts will be available at www.dmirs.wa.gov.au/WHS
WHS information update sessions
Throughout January and February 2022, the Department will hold a series of WHS Laws - Information Update sessions in the metropolitan and regional areas. Where possible, the sessions will be live streamed and recorded.
Planning and preparation for the information update sessions is still in progress.
