Charges Filed After East Melbourne Crime Spree

Melbourne East police have charged a man following a series of alleged criminal damage incidents in East Melbourne this year.

Police will allege the tyres of approximately 30 cars were slashed in the vicinity of George, Simpson and Powlett streets on 1 November about 5am.

It's believed the same man returned at 3.55pm and allegedly kicked a glass pane nearby, causing it to smash.

Police will also allege the man damaged more than 30 vehicles on George Street on 12 July, as well as damaging the tyres of a police vehicle in East Melbourne on 22 November.

Yesterday, East Melbourne Neighbourhood Team officers arrested a 47-year-old Richmond man.

He has since been charged with 73 x counts of criminal and wilful damage.

He was bailed to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 21 February 2025.
