A man has been charged after a woman and a child were hit by a car in Sydney's south west this week.
About 5pm on Tuesday (12 November 2024), emergency services were called to reports of a crash on Old Glenfield Road, Glenfield.
Officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command attended and found a sedan had left the road and struck a woman and a young girl waiting the cross the road.
The four-year-old girl was thrown into a tree on impact, while the 72-year-old woman was critically injured.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated them at the scene before the woman was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition; the girl was taken to The Children's Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle – an 18-year-old man – was taken to Liverpool Hospital.
Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the crash.
Following inquiries, about 12.10pm today (Saturday 16 November 2024), the 18-year-old was arrested at Glenfield and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm, cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle), not stop at stop line at red light, and not comply P1 licence – no P plates.
The 18-year-old man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear before Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday 17 December 2024.
