Charges for Armed Robbery, Assault in Dianella

Mirrabooka Detectives have charged two men in relation to an incident that occurred in Dianella on Tuesday 21 May 2024.

About 5:55pm, a silver Holden sedan and a white utility were involved in a minor rear-end collision on Alexander Drive, causing both parties to agree to pull over to exchange information.

During the exchange it will be alleged the driver of the utility – a 29-year-old male – assaulted the driver of the Holden – a 51-year-old male (victim) – by repeatedly striking him to head with a hammer.

It will be further alleged, the 29-year-old male stole the victim's phone and wallet before leaving the area.

The 51-year-old male victim received serious head injuries, requiring hospitalisation and ongoing specialist treatment.

Following an extensive investigation, Mirrabooka Detectives arrested the 29-year-old male on Wednesday 17 July 2024 at an address in Lathlain.

A 48-year-old male, who is known to the 29-year-old male, was also taken into custody on the same day at an address in Canning Vale.

It will be alleged the 48-year-old male, who is the registered owner of the white utility, assisted the 29-year-old male to alter the appearance of the vehicle so that it was unrecognisable as being involved in the incident.

The vehicle was subsequently sold in its altered state and falsely reported as stolen.

It is believed the victim and 29-year-old male were not known to each other, however, a relation of the 29-year-old male is known to the victim through previous employment. It is believed the assault was targeted.

The 29-year-old male has been charged with one count of 'Aggravated armed robbery' and one count of 'Grievous bodily harm'.

He has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on 29 August 2024.

The 48-year-old male has been charged with one count of 'Attempted to pervert the course of justice' and one count of 'Gains benefit by fraud'.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on 7 August 2024.
