Investigators have charged four males over allegedly ramming a police vehicle during a pursuit in Sydney's western suburbs.
About 7.20pm on Monday (6 November 2023), officers attached to the Police Dog Unit were travelling south along the Prospect Highway when they sighted an allegedly stolen vehicle.
When the vehicle failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later, when a second vehicle allegedly rammed into the rear of the fully marked police vehicle.
The senior constable from the Dog Unit and the police dog were not injured.
Officers attached to Strike Force Sweetenham commenced an investigation into both incidents.
Following extensive inquiries, investigators attended a home in Toongabbie and arrested four males – two aged 15, a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old – about 1.50pm yesterday (Tuesday 7 November 2023).
All four were taken to Mt Druitt Police Station.
A 15-year-old boy was charged with the following 13 offences:
- predatory driving (two counts),
- aggravated break enter and steal (two counts),
- use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention,
- police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously,
- drive conveyance taken without consent of owner (three counts),
- dishonestly obtain property by deception (two counts),
- never licensed person drive vehicle on road (two counts).
He was refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Wednesday 8 November 2023).
The other 15-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner (two counts), and dishonestly obtain property by deception.
The 16-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
Both boys were granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Monday 27 November 2023.
The 20-year-old man was charged with the following eight offences:
- be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner (two counts),
- use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention (two counts),
- aggravated break & enter commit serious indictable offence,
- drive a conveyance without consent of owner,
- police pursuit not stop drive recklessly, and
- fraud.
He was refused bail to appear before Blacktown Local Court today (Wednesday 8 November 2023).
