Northern Territory Police have arrested a man for Aggravated assault, contravention of DVO, two counts of Assault police and Resist police in Tennant Creek.
Around 2am yesterday, police received reports of a domestic violence incident near the Limonite Street bridge, where it was alleged a 23-year-old woman had been hit in the face with a glass bottle.
Police attended, and while attempting to arrest a 22-year-old man he resisted arrest and refused to comply with police directions pushing both officers to the chest, resulting in one falling to the ground.
The man was arrested and conveyed to the Tennant Creek Watch House. He has since been charged with Aggravated assault, contravention of DVO, Assault police and Resist police. He was remanded to appear in Tennant Creek Local Court on 12 August 2024.
The victim was conveyed to Tennant Creek Hospital to receive treatment for injuries to her face while the police officers suffered minor injuries.
Superintendent Katie Hatzismalis said, "Our police officers work day and night to protect and serve Territorians, and it's unacceptable that two officers have been assaulted while performing their duties.
"There is no place in our community for Domestic and Family Violence and NT police continue to urge those impacted to reach out.
