Charges Upgraded to Murder in Elderly Woman's Death

A man who allegedly sexually assaulted an elderly woman at an aged care facility on the Central Coast last year has had his charges upgraded to murder.

Police were told about 12.40am on Wednesday 15 November 2023, an unknown man broke into a facility in Bateau Bay where he allegedly assaulted and sexually assaulted a 90-year-old woman.

On Friday 17 November 2023, detectives attached to State Crime Commands Sex Crimes Squad charged a 34-year-old man who remains before the courts.

On Tuesday 28 November 2023, police were notified the woman died in hospital as a result of her injuries.

As a consequence, the man's charges were today (Friday 13 December 2024) upgraded to include murder and manslaughter.

The man is next due to appear before Gosford Local Court on Friday 21 February 2025.
