Surf Coast Shire Council has replaced the old 7kW single port electric vehicle (EV) charger in front of the Lorne Visitor Information Centre, with a 50kW dual port charger, providing a public charging station in the area.

Three more public EV charging stations will also be installed throughout the year, one each in Winchelsea, Aireys Inlet and Anglesea.

The Aireys Inlet charging station will be located in the car park of the Aireys Inlet Community Hall. Preliminary works are underway, and installation is expected by the middle of the year.

The Winchelsea charging station will be located in the old Winchelsea Library car park. Planning has commenced, but installation is not expected until later in the year.

The location for the Anglesea charging station is still to be confirmed.

"It's great to have this public EV charging station back up and running in Lorne", said Cr Leon Walker.

"With more visitors driving hybrid or electric vehicles, it is convenient they now have a public option to charge their vehicles in Lorne."

"And once all of the EV chargers are installed it will mean visitors travelling through our area will have four more options for fast charging."

The charging stations will all be dual port 50kW fast chargers. Two-hour parking limits will apply to each charging parking bay.

The charging stations have been funded through the Victorian Government's Destination Charging Across Victoria program, establishing a public electric vehicle fast-charging network across Victoria.
