With many families seeking the sun over these winter school holidays, travellers are being reminded that biosecurity basics are very important when travelling in and out of the State.
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jane Howlett, said by doing the little things we can ensure Tasmania's robust biosecurity system can continue to protect our way of life.
"All Tasmanians play a role in helping protect our State's primary industries, economy, environment and way of life from the adverse impacts of pests, weeds and diseases," Minister Howlett said.
"It's important to know what you can and cannot bring into Tasmania so that you don't bring any restricted or prohibited items with you.
"If you see something unusual, then please report it - that sighting could make all the difference.
"The Biosecurity Basics are simple, yet practical actions you can take, whether you live in Tasmania or you are visiting our island state."
Our Biosecurity Basics are:
- Check your bags - Be careful what you bring to Tasmania.
- Come in clean - Be sure to arrive in Tasmania with clean clothing, gear and equipment.
- Stay on the path - Do not enter properties or private land without permission.
- Report anything unusual - See it. Secure it. Report it.
If you're not sure what you can bring into the state, Biosecurity Tasmania has a traveller's guide to Tasmanian Biosecurity or you can check with Biosecurity Officers when you arrive.
Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future reaffirms the vital role agriculture plays in the Tasmanian economy, which is why it is so important to have strong biosecurity measures in place.
