The nation will be holding its collective breath tonight as our world-conquering Matildas do battle with the English Lionesses in the FIFA Women's World Cup semi-final – and City of Ryde is partnering with Top Ryde City shopping centre to host a special family-friendly live site.
A Mayoral Minute which was passed at an extraordinary Council meeting on Tuesday 15 August resolved that Council staff liaise with Top Ryde City shopping centre management to partner in the provision of a free live site for all remaining Matildas matches.
The resolution followed a meeting between City of Ryde Mayor Clr Sarkis Yedelian OAM and Top Ryde City management that resulted in Top Ryde City hosting a live site for the Matildas' gripping quarter-final victory over France on Saturday 12 August.
A second meeting with the Mayor and centre management following Australia's historic win determined that Council will join with Top Ryde City in screening the remaining Matildas matches which, hopefully, will include Sunday night's final.
"This is a great outcome that not only supports the community's desire to watch the Matildas as a collective but also benefits many local businesses that call Top Ryde City home," said Clr Yedelian.
"I encourage fans to come and enjoy a meal at one of Top Ryde City's outstanding restaurants before gathering at the outdoor mega screen in the Piazza at 8.00pm to watch the game and cheer on our amazing Matildas."
Top Ryde City is among a number of local businesses which are holding screenings of tonight's epic showdown.
Fans can also watch the game at Club Ryde, The Governor Hotel, Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, Gladesville Sporties, North Ryde RSL, the Ranch Hotel, West Ryde Hotel, Bayview Gladesville, and Gladesville RSL and Community Club.
"This promises to be an unforgettable night, so grab your green and gold scarves and support both the Matildas and our local businesses," said Clr Yedelian.
