The Tingha district's ongoing clean-up from the February bushfire will be assisted by a chemical drop-off day at the Tingha Waste Transfer Station on Wednesday 1 May.
Hazardous chemicals and chemical containers, including containers without labels, can be delivered to the transfer station between 9am and 2pm, as part of the ToxFree Household Chemical program.
"The drop-off day will provide a convenient disposal option for residents impacted by the Tingha Plateau fire, while ensuring hazardous chemicals are managed in a way that is safe and environmentally friendly," Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said.
"Damage to containers by the fire and the disarray that typically follows a natural disaster can contribute to the issue of hazardous chemicals on properties. A number of fire-affected Tingha households will be looking to safely dispose of chemicals and unidentified containers as part of their ongoing clean-ups."
Residents utilising the drop-off day will need to provide ToxFree with information on where unlabelled chemicals were stored, to assist with their management.
"The chemical disposal service is just one of the ways service providers are continuing to assist residents in what can be a long process to recover from the February blaze," Cr Murray said.
"The Armidale and Inverell councils are working together, in conjunction with the Office of Emergency Management and other agencies, to ensure people get the ongoing support needed."
