Children's Art Competition Highlights What's Important

As part of planning for the future, Council asked residents to share the things they feel are important to them and the opinions of young people.

Children between the ages of 4 and 12 were asked to submit an artwork with the winning artworks to be featured in the new edition of the Clarence Valley Community Strategic Plan – The Clarence 2036.

Clarence Valley Mayor Ray Smith had the honour of judging all 31 entries.

"Choosing a winner was no easy task. We certainly have some up and coming artists in our community.

Competitions like this not only engage our future generations but also give us valuable insight into what they cherish most about our community."

First place went to Alice aged 10 (pictured above), of Harwood with her drawing of a coastal landscape featuring a sandy shore, deep blue water and a greenery filled island in the background.

Second place went to Phoebe aged 8 (pictured bottom left), of Gulmarrad for her colourful landscape complete with water, greenery and beautiful sunset.

Third place went to Miley aged 12 (pictured bottom right), of Copmanhurst for her bright painting of the Grafton Bridge complete with the Jacaranda trees.

The Community Strategic Plan is currently being reviewed and will be out for public consultation in the coming months.

All entries are now on display at the Grafton Customer Service Centre, 2 Prince Street Grafton.
