Mount Gambier Library is pleased to host a very special family event, the launch of picture book 'Banjo Frog's Concert Spectacular' with author Kirstin Martin and illustrator Bianca Richardson on Sunday 17 March at 11:00am.
The story was initiated by the environmental charity Foundation for Rabbit-Free Australia, to produce a picture book to help educate children on caring for both bush plants and animals.
The concept was initially pitched to local graphic designer, Bianca Richardson, who took on the role of illustrating the book.
"I have been interested in illustrating children's books for quite some time, so when this opportunity presented itself, I was more than happy to be a part of it. Tackling an environmental issue such as the destruction rabbits make in a kid-friendly way was a challenge, but I think that Kristin I have 'met the brief' so to say and created more awareness around the topic. Looking at what we all can do to make a difference," explained Bianca Richardson.
Publishers Wakefield Press secured teacher and author Kristin Martin to write the story, and she and Bianca worked together to bring 'Banjo Frog's Concert Spectacular' to life.
Easter Bilby and his fellow animal friends are at risk of cancelling their concert. They are hungry and tired due to wild rabbits taking over their environment. Together the animals work together to reclaim their Australian habit and put on their spectacular concert.
This is a family friendly event with an interactive book reading, followed by a craft activity making little animal finger puppets. 'Banjo Frog's Concert Spectacular' will be available for sale and signing.
