Cobden and District Kindergarten is a finalist in the 2024 Victorian Early Years Awards.
The Pathways Program has been nominated on the Continuity of Early Learning category.
Corangamite Shire Council Acting Chief Executive Officer Justine Linley said the Pathways Program focuses on enhancing children's sense of belonging by supporting smooth transitions from early years to kindergarten and then school.
"It was developed in response to Australian Early Development Census data showing vulnerabilities in the local community," Ms Linley said.
"The program adopts an innovative social approach, partnering with the community to ensure a strong start to education.
"It provides parent education, outreach, shared teaching practices, and support for vulnerable families."
"The program is a partnership with Cobden Primary School, Cobden & District Playgroup and Cobden Maternal & Child Health.
"By working together we deepen families' understanding of early education and boost their confidence.
This community-centric, research-driven approach fosters collaboration and innovation, ensuring each child receives flexible, responsive support. Educators also benefit by establishing positive relationships with children and parents as they move through the education system.
This nomination is a testament to the great work our early childhood professionals do every day to improve learning outcomes of children in our community.
The awards are run by the Victorian Department of Education.
Winners will be announced on 7 November.
