Child's Death in Officer Sparks Cardinia Shire Council Statement

Victoria Police has confirmed that sadly, a four-year-old boy from Swan Hill died yesterday (12 May) in Officer after being located unresponsive in a wetland area near Lagoon Row at about 5pm.

Police have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious and that a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Jack Kowarzik has extended his deepest sympathies to the child's family on behalf of the Cardinia Shire community.

"This is absolutely tragic news. On behalf of Council and the local community, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the boy's family during this devastating time. The Cardinia Shire community has been deeply affected by this terrible incident happening so close to home.

"I'd also like to acknowledge the impact of this incident on first responders, and the valiant efforts of emergency services personnel who attended the scene," Mayor Kowarzik said.
