President Lula invited President Gabriel Boric to participate in the G20 Summit in November in Rio de Janeiro and heard from him the willingness to join the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, Brasil's main initiative ahead of the G20 presidency. The invitation happened during the Brazilian Head of State's official visit to Chile this Monday (5).
The two presidents held a private bilateral session followed by an extended meeting. One of the issues discussed with President Gabriel Boric was the collaboration with the South American country in the areas of science and technology and the need to regulate and access the benefits of artificial intelligence equitably. President Lula also addressed the energy transition as a promising partnership area, with a focus on green hydrogen, critical minerals, and electric vehicles.
"We discussed the need to build capacities and regulate Artificial Intelligence so that everyone has access to its benefits and can mitigate its risks. We also discussed a promising partnership in energy transition. By integrating chains of green hydrogen, critical minerals, and electric vehicles, we will be able to add value to our production and occupy prominent positions in the international market," stated President Lula, highlighting themes that are priority agendas for the Brazilian presidency of the G20.
Global debate on the climate
In the context of environmental conservation, Lula underscored the importance of Brasil and Chile in the global debate on climate change, another Brazilian presidency priority for the G20. The president emphasized the investment made in the bioeconomy and signaled the connection of both countries with two key biomes for the planet: the Amazon and Antarctica.
"We are unavoidable players in the debate on climate change, due to our ties with two of the most important biomes on the planet. The risk that the Amazon and Antarctica will reach tipping points affects us directly. We both believe in the potential of bioeconomy and want to deepen the already solid history of collaboration between our Antarctic stations. In Brazil, we have a green Amazon, in the rainforest, and a blue one, in the Atlantic Ocean. Chile's turquoise diplomacy, which merges the two colors in a shared concern for the sustainable use of natural resources, is an inspiration to us," highlighted President Lula.
South American cooperation
President Lula's official visit marks the launch of a new stage in the Brasil-Chile relations and registered the signature of 17 agreements and negotiations. The agreements deal with the areas of agriculture, health, science, technology and innovation, trade, advancements in digital public management, cooperation in cybersecurity, cooperation in caregiving matters, inequality reduction, and the fight against hunger and poverty. Agreements to promote collaboration between the two countries' ministries of Mines and Energy were also signed.
