Two upgraded recreational facilities in Chiltern and Barnawartha, with a combined value of more than $1.2M, have been officially opened.
Mayor Sophie Price joined Minister for Community Sport, Agriculture and Carers and Volunteers, Ros Spence for the official ribbon cutting at the new Chiltern Tennis Courts and later at the Barnawartha Recreation Reserve to open two new multipurpose courts.
Both projects were made possible through funding from the Government's Local Sport Infrastructure Fund, a Council contribution of over $450,000 and contributions from the Barnawartha Netball Club and Chiltern Tennis Club.
Cr Price says that the upgraded facilities are now compliant with Tennis and Netball Victoria standards and are another demonstration of Council's commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of its community.
"Sporting clubs provide so many benefits for small rural communities, from opportunities to get active and to raise our next sporting stars, to social connection across generations. We're grateful to the Victorian Government for helping us to deliver these important projects that will make a big difference to the people of Barnawartha and Chiltern." Cr Price said.
In Barnawartha, two courts were redeveloped to be compliant for both netball and tennis, new LED lighting was installed as well as new shelters for players and coaches. In Chiltern, two tennis courts were upgraded with new surfaces, and new LED lighting and fencing was installed.
