Earlier this month, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) was excited to host its annual CHOP Prom for patients and their families.
This year's theme was "Adventure Awaits: Around the World" and each inpatient unit was transformed into a different city, state, or country - from CHOP's hometown Philadelphia to Sydney, Australia, with landmark backdrops and travel-inspired decorations. Throughout the afternoon, patients and families had the opportunity to participate in activities, like a gameshow and bingo on Galaxy 51, CHOP's patient television network, as well as other arts and crafts to help document their memories. And of course, there was music and dancing broadcasted live through CHOP's Seacrest Studios to each hospital room.
CHOP Prom is planned and executed by the Child Life, Education and Creative Arts department, specially trained staff who provide individualized care and support designed to meet the unique needs of children and families as they cope with illness, injury, treatment, hospitalization and the overall healthcare experience.
Along with the Child Life team, the Joshua Kahan Fund and our friends from the Hole in Wall Gang support the annual event that gives our patients and families one day where their main concern is looking and feeling fabulous, smiling, dancing and having fun! This year's Prom was an opportunity to celebrate places and cultures around the world and give CHOP patients the chance to enjoy themselves.
