Christmas miracle for teen driver

A P-plater was lucky to escape serious injury following a crash just north of Kadina this morning.

Just before 7.00 am Sunday 24 December police from Yorke Mid North patrols were called to a single vehicle rollover on the Spencer Highway, Tickera.

Upon arrival police found an extensively damaged Ford Ranger utility in the trees. Investigation of the scene identified the Ford had left the highway at high speed and crashed into numerous trees before striking a large tree that ripped off the front right wheel causing the ute to become airborne striking another tree approximately 15 feet off of the ground before coming to rest on the driver's side.

The driver and sole occupant, an 18-year-old local man, received minor injuries and was taken to the Wallaroo Hospital before being flown to Adelaide.

He has been reported for driving in a manner dangerous and lost his licence on the spot for 12 months. A sample of the man's blood has been sent to FSSA for further analysis.

Sergeant GRAHAM of Yorke Mid North Highway patrol said, "With the significant impact of the crash and extensive damage to the Ford Ranger, it is a miracle that the driver is alive to spend Christmas with his family."
