Cricket Victoria and CitiPower are delighted to announce the clubs that have received funding through the 2024-25 Canteen Grants program.
Twenty-one lucky Victorian cricket clubs will receive funding through this year's program – totalling $78,000 in grants to deliver projects that develop or improve electrical safety in their club canteens.
In its seventh year in 2024-25, total funding has now reached $439,000 distributed across 112 local cricket clubs.
Across the state, a record 175 clubs submitted grant applications this year, up from the 100 in 2023-24. Clubs were invited to apply for up to $5,000 in grants across club canteen and clubhouses across the CitiPower, Powercor, and United Energy electricity distribution regions.
Merv Hughes, a former Cricket Victoria and Australian cricket player, will feature in a new social media campaign celebrating this season's grant recipients.
"I've spent a lot of time at local cricket clubs, and a good bit of that time has been spent hanging out at club canteens, just like some of this year's grant recipients," said Hughes.
"Safety is important for all of us, whether on the field or in the canteen, and the CitiPower & Cricket Victoria Canteen Grant program has been a huge benefit in ensuring that clubs continue to improve electrical infrastructure in club canteens."
CitiPower General Manager Scott Russell says the hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants dished out highlights the need for continued investment in overloaded circuitry and ageing appliances.
"We continue to see record levels of interest in this program, and we fully appreciate what a difference it makes for local clubs have a pathway to safe, new and fully functioning electrical appliances in their canteens," explains Scott.
"Colder drinks for the fans. Fresher oranges for the players. Hotter pies for club functions. It all means more money can be raised through the canteens and invested back into the club."
Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins said the CitiPower Canteen Grants program helps clubs maintain safe environments with essential equipment, making a real difference for volunteers and communities.
"The program continues to generate an increase in applications each year, and we are especially pleased to see a 75 percent rise this time around," said Cummins.
"We are grateful to our naming rights partner CitiPower for their ongoing and generous support of Victorian clubs across our state."
