The City of Perth has committed $2 million towards Western Australia's bicentenary in 2029.
Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the City's $2 million would contribute to a bicentenary program that could include an enduring legacy project, community and civic events, cultural heritage commemorations and a bicentenary-focused Boorloo Heritage Festival.
"The bicentenary represents an important opportunity for the community to come together and recognise 200 years since the founding of Perth and the Swan River Colony on Whadjuk Country in a meaningful and inclusive way," Mr Zempilas said.
"We will hold extensive consultation with our local communities, beginning with the Whadjuk Nyoongar community, to ensure everyone has a say on how the City should mark the occasion.
"While 2029 is still some time away, it is important that we start planning now and part of that process is getting everyone involved to help shape our program."
The Lord Mayor said the City would take the lead from the State Government to mark the bicentenary and celebrate the diverse communities that make up Perth and Western Australia.
"This is an opportunity to tell many stories and highlight the communities that have contributed to the culture of our incredible City of Light."
Consultation on the program will start later in the year.
