The City of Greater Bendigo is developing a masterplan for Malone Park in Marong and is calling on members of the Marong and wider community to have their say by completing an online survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/MaloneParkMP by Friday January 22, 2021.
City of Greater Bendigo Active and Healthy Manager Lincoln Fitzgerald said Malone Park is the main recreation reserve in the Marong township featuring extensive sports facilities, children's playground, picnic area and extensive areas of bushland and grassy areas for recreation and relaxation.
"A masterplan for Malone Park will guide the future development and maintenance of this important recreation area for the growing Marong community and build on the work previously undertaken by the Malone Park Users Group Association," Mr Fitzgerald said.
"Marong is one of Greater Bendigo's growth areas with a predicted four-fold increase in population to 8,000 predicted by the City's Marong Structure Plan in coming years.
"It is therefore important for the City to plan for this growth to ensure Marong has the necessary infrastructure for it to continue to grow.
"Sports facilities at Malone Park include two pavilions, a sports oval, trotting track and horse yards, netball courts, cricket training facilities, bowling greens and the nearby Marong Swimming pool.
"A rest stop, playground, picnic/barbecue area and main toilet block are located alongside the Calder Alternative Highway. A second toilet block is located near the harness racing track. The barbecue area is right alongside the children's play space and features an undercover area, picnic tables, electric barbecues, and a drinking fountain.
"Malone Park is home to the Marong Football and Netball Club, Marong Cricket Club, Marong Bowls Club, Marong Light Harness Club, Greater Bendigo Family Equine Group with the Marong Golf Club also managing adjacent land to the south as part of it's back nine.
"Through the community survey the City of Greater Bendigo wants to determine how, and if residents currently use the reserve and what they would like to see at the reserve in the future.
