City Of Canada Bay Awards $170,000 To Community Groups

The City of Canada Bay has awarded almost $170,000 to 53 groups as part of its Community Funding Programs.

"We were delighted to announce our 2024-25 round of grant funding recently at a Community Grants Awards night, which celebrated the contributions that community groups, not-for-profit organisations and schools make to our local community," said City of Canada Bay General Manager John Clark.

Funding is distributed across three categories - Community Project Grants, Environmental Grants and Event Grants. Through these grants, Council supports high quality events, projects and activities that deliver social, recreational and cultural benefits to the community.

Council also aims to help grow the capacity of local organisations to implement programs that address a local community need or issues, as well as celebrate diversity, encourage participation, and showcase creativity.

Our Event Grants will bring to life Christmas markets, Lunar New Year celebrations, the King of Concrete Skateboard Competition and more! While this year's Environmental Grants will support a number of sustainability-related projects that aim to change behaviour and deliver environmental outcomes for the community. These include projects to create new wildlife habitats in local schools, the installation of a water refill station at Abbotsford Community Centre, and an Aquaponics project at Rosebank College to teach students about sustainable agriculture.

Some other groups and programs supported this year include:

  • Touched by Olivia Foundation's Storytime at Livvi's Place, Five Dock: This program offers free storytelling, music and craft activities for families twice a week and is run by people with disabilities, providing an inclusive employment opportunity for our diverse community members.
  • 1st Yaralla Sea Scout Group's Project Light-Up: This project will install energy efficient lighting at the Scout Hall to improve safety and visibility for the reserve and launching ramp.
  • Inner West Neighbour Aid's 5 Senses Garden revamp: This project will revitalise the community garden in Concord West with a new garden bed, including bush tucker and sensory plants, expanded vegepods, and additional gardening materials and tools.
  • Ebenezer Mission's International Day of People with Disability: This annual event celebrates diversity and raises awareness of people with disability. It showcases musicians and performers of all abilities and brings together local non-profits and service providers
