The City of Perth continues to win awards on the national stage winning "Parking Organisation of the Year" at the national Parking Industry Awards held in Melbourne.
The City picked up the prestigious prize for its On-street Technology Transformation and Business Improvement project.
This is the fourth award in a week for the City of Perth following on from the Rio Tinto Christmas Lights Trail and Perth Town Hall winning Best Community Event and Venue of the Year respectively at the Australian Event Awards, and the City's Urban Greening Strategy winning an Australian Institute of Landscape award.
Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the recognition was well deserved given the huge enhancements the City had made to parking over the past four years.
"The City has introduced some game-changing technological improvements over the past year or so which have made parking in the City faster, smarter and easier," Mr Zempilas said.
"We have installed new parking meters which don't just look better, they provide a smoother and more reliable parking experience, complementing the City's other recent addition of the EasyPark payment app.
"Our new parking meters are cashless and ticketless, making them a more sustainable option.
"Ultimately, Perth's parking business boosts the City's vibrancy while helping top keep Rates consistently low for ratepayers."
The Parking Industry Awards celebrate the achievements of organisations who achieve the highest industry standards through the use of technology, exceptional customer service and the development of outstanding facilities.
Parking Australia is the national body which runs the awards and CEO Jeremy Irvine applauded the City of Perth on its significant achievement.
"The City of Perth is the only local government council to have won this award – now twice – in the past 10 years – and the entire team involved are to be heartily congratulated," Mr Irvine said.
"The independent judges' comments noted that the project was an outstanding example of the total transformation of a municipal parking system."
The City of Perth has undertaken a number of free parking initiatives to support visitation and vibrancy in the City, contributing to a strong night-time economy, with free night parking at all City-operated carparks, in every bay, from 6pm.
There is also three-hour free parking provided on weekends at City-operated Pier Street, Cultural Centre and His Majesty carparks, as well as one-hour free parking on Hay Street and Royal Street.
More than 1.7 million drivers have embraced the free parking initiatives in 2023/24 with more than $12 million returned to the Perth community in foregone revenue through the parking initiatives.
