City Seeks Youth for Victorian Parliament Program

The City of Greater Geelong, in partnership with Geelong YMCA, is seeking young people aged 16 to 25 to represent the region in the Victorian Youth Parliament Program.

The program is run annually and draws 20 teams from across the state together.

Each team comprises of six young people who advocate for issues that matter to them.

Participants will learn about the Victorian legislative system, develop advocacy and community leadership skills, and create and debate their own proposed legislation on an issue they are passionate about.

The Victorian Youth Parliament Program is a wonderful way for young people to expand their leadership skills and meet like-minded people from across the state.

"Personal and professional development opportunities like this are so valuable and I encourage eligible members of the community to register their interest.

Young people who are selected for the team will be provided with regular mentoring and support from a member of the City's Youth Development Unit and the YMCA throughout the course of the program.

To be eligible for the Geelong Youth Parliament team, interested participants must live in the City of Greater Geelong local government area, be aged between 16 and 25 years at the time of nomination, and have the support of a parent or guardian if aged under 18.

In addition, participants must be able to attend:

  • Youth Parliament Training Weekend between Friday 23 May – Sunday 25 May 2025.
  • Youth Parliament Week between Sunday 6 July – Friday 11 July 2025.
