South Australia Police Mounted and Dog Operations Unit have moved into the new City Staging facility on King William Street.
Commissioner of Police Grant Stevens said the proximity to the city is essential for SAPOL's operational capability, ensuring units can effectively respond to incidents and events throughout the city.
"The purpose-built facility has office space, six kennels, 12 stables and a round yard to support SAPOL's operational capabilities in the city," he said.
"Our mounted officers are deployed in the city on Friday and Saturday nights, for large events such as the Adelaide Fringe as well as for planned protests and throughout the week as part of their training of the Police Horses.
"The police dogs and their handlers will use the staging area when they are deployed to the city. Their kennels include soundproofing to minimise noise pollution to the surrounding area."
The location of the staging area guarantees the response time to be similar to the former Thebarton Barracks site.
The staging area will not be occupied 24/7 and will not be accessible to the public.
While it is likely there will be a police presence at the site most days of the week, it is primarily a safe and secure location to prepare and rest horses when they are on deployment in the city.
