Wagga Wagga is cementing its place as a key destination for top-level cycling events, with AusCycling this week announcing that the 2025 AusCycling Road State Championships for NSW will take place in the city in August.
The state championships – featuring juniors and masters racing – will be held over three days, from 15 to 17 August 2025.
This key event will provide a prime opportunity for riders to test themselves ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 AusCycling Junior and Masters Road National Championship in Wagga Wagga in September.
In a first for the NSW championships, the event will be held on the same closed-road courses that will host the national titles a month later, offering a unique "curtain-raiser" experience for riders.
"Hosting the NSW State Championships on the same courses as the National Championships is a fantastic opportunity for our athletes to familiarise themselves with the conditions, terrain and tactical demands they will face at the national level," said AusCycling's Nick Hannan.
"It also provides the local community and cycling fans a chance to witness the next generation of NSW talent and seasoned Masters riders compete at the highest level."
AusCycling has worked closely with Wagga Wagga City Council and Wagga Wagga Cycling Club to ensure both events showcase the region's outstanding cycling infrastructure and hospitality.
Along with fantastic road courses, the events will use Wagga Wagga's world class cycling precinct at Pomingalarna Reserve.
Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Dallas Tout is excited about welcoming the state championships to the city in 2025.
"It is yet another feather in Wagga Wagga's cap when it comes to its reputation as being the City of Good Sports," Cr Tout said. "Our state-of-the-art Multisport Cycling Complex at Pomingalarna Reserve is proving to be a great drawcard for this elite level of competition.
"A lot of these riders will be using this event as a lead up to the National Championships, to be held in Wagga Wagga later in September, and we're looking forward to seeing the riders put their skills to the test on the criterium track.
"With up to 350 participants and event officials – plus their families and supporters – expected to converge on our city for the three days of competition, it's set to provide significant benefits for our local tourism and hospitality industries of Wagga Wagga and surrounds.
