CityUHK Shines at Geneva Invention Expo with 33 Awards

CityUHK faculty, researchers and HK Tech 300 start-up teams excel at the 50th IEIG with 33 awards.

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) researchers excelled at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva (IEIG), securing 33 awards. Their achievements include one Special Prize, five Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, nine Gold Medals, 16 Silver Medals, and two Bronze Medals. This remarkable success highlights CityUHK's global leadership in high-calibre research and innovation.

Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation & Enterprise) and Yeung Kin Man Chair Professor of Biomedical Sciences, proudly extended his congratulations to all the award recipients for their achievements. He remarked that their accomplishments reflect CityUHK's commitment to fostering innovation and excellence on a global scale, as well as their dedication to making positive impacts on both Hong Kong society and the world.

Professor Yang said that CityUHK is committed to facilitating the transfer of research findings into tangible real-world applications, adding that the University will continue to be committed to promoting innovative research and nurturing outstanding talent.

He also emphasised that CityUHK will continue to promote interdisciplinary scientific research and encourage cross-departmental collaboration among scholars. For example, CityUHK has been consistently promoting collaboration among the industry, academic and research sectors, adopting a triangular collaboration model that brings together talent, government, and industry in the Academy of Innovation, the Institute of Digital Medicine, and the Hong Kong Institute of AI for Science, established by CityUHK last year.

The project "PRISTINZ Anti-thermal Glass", led by Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor of CityUHK and Professor Goh Chin Foo, Director of Knowledge Transfer, received both a Special Prize and a Gold Medal.

Among CityUHK's victorious teams at the 50th IEIG, ten are startups and teams nurtured by HK Tech 300, CityUHK's innovation and entrepreneurship programme. They secured two Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, one Gold Medal and seven Silver Medals.

The IEIG, an annual event focused on inventions, offers a unique platform for inventors and researchers from all over the world to showcase their research outcomes and new products. The 50th edition held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 9 to 13 April, featured over 1,000 inventions from 42 countries and regions worldwide.
