La Trobe University is set to welcome the next generation of students for 2019, today offering places for study through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) main offer round.
There has again been strong interest in La Trobe University's career-ready courses, including Cybersecurity and Commerce.
It's the first intake of students taking part in La Trobe's new three-year Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) undergraduate degree delivered at the University's Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga campuses. Those who successfully complete the course will then gain guaranteed entry into the University of Melbourne's Doctor of Medicine postgraduate program, based in Shepparton. With strong interest from across Australia, a total of 15 students have been offered a place in the new end-to-end rural medical program designed to help solve Australia's rural doctor shortage.
There has also been high demand for a range of the University's leading courses. Courses with the largest total number of offers made in the main round are Nursing (740), Arts (381), Health Sciences (305), Business (263) and Sports and Exercise Science (252).
Highlights of offers for courses based on selection by ATAR included:
- Health Sciences in Dentistry/Dentistry - lowest offered Selection Rank of 99.1. Dentistry is offered at the University's Bendigo campus and has one of Victoria's highest rankings
- Bachelor of Applied Science/Physiotherapy Practice - lowest offered Selection Rank of 97.15 in Melbourne and 95.3 for Bendigo
- Bachelor of Law/Psychological Science - lowest offered Selection Rank of 92.6
- Biomedical Science (Medical) - lowest offered Selection Rank of 89.05.
La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar said the University would continue to make VTAC offers in subsequent rounds. Professor Dewar said while it was still early days, these VTAC offers, when combined with direct applications, postgraduate coursework enrolments and international study, indicate La Trobe qualifications continue to be in strong demand.
"I congratulate our new 2019 students on their offer from La Trobe University. We are delighted to invite you to study at one of Victoria's oldest and most prestigious universities," Professor Dewar said.
"La Trobe has a proud history of offering high standard, career-ready degree programs, with a dual commitment to excellence and inclusion.
"Our primary focus is to ensure a challenging and rewarding experience for all our students, and ensure they fully realise all the benefits of higher education study.
"Our new students have chosen a University that is highly rated by employers for preparing students for the world of work," Professor Dewar said.
"Australian employers recently rated La Trobe University graduates second among all Victorian universities for producing graduates with high levels of foundation skills essential to the workplace.*"
Other 2019 VTAC highlights include:
* For 94 La Trobe University courses, the lowest ATAR accepted (lowest offered Selection Rank) has increased this year.
