Classics Concessions: 30-Year Rolling Starts

  • Concessions for Classics (C4C) rolling 30-year vehicle eligibility now available
  • More than 75,000 WA vehicles expected to become eligible by end of 2025
  • C4C scheme received a $2m expansion in the 2024-25 State Budget

In a move to encourage more motoring club members to spend more time enjoying their beloved classic vehicles, the Cook Government has introduced a 30-year rolling eligibility for the Concessions for Classics (C4C) scheme.

With a $2 million boost, as part of the 2024-25 State Budget, C4C is now available to owners of eligible street rods and classic vehicles manufactured 30 years ago or longer, and who are a financial member of a Department of Transport (DoT) approved motoring club.

The C4C scheme was introduced in WA in 2021 to provide a 75 per cent discount on vehicle licence fees, and a reduction in compulsory Motor Injury Insurance (MII) premium for classic eligible vehicles.

Region-by-region breakdown of vehicles registered under the Department of Transport's Concessions for Classics scheme, as of 19 November 2024:

The change is likely to enable car enthusiasts to get more enjoyment from their weekend motoring pursuits.

DoT estimates that more than 75,000 WA vehicles will qualify for C4C by the end of 2025 with the introduction of the rolling 30-year-old eligibility.

Examples of vehicles registered with an approved car club that would receive discounted registration include:

  • a 1929 Ford Roadster would drop from $856.28 to $158.77;
  • a 1956 Holden FJ would drop from $801.16 to $144.99 per year;
  • a 1991 Holden Commodore would drop from $938.96 to $179.44 per year;
  • a 1992 Ford Falcon would drop from $911.40 to $172.55 per year; and
  • a 1994 BMW 318 would drop from $883.84 to $165.66 per year.

Vehicles in the scheme are only able to be driven on public roads for a maximum of 90 days per annum, which is suited to car club and weekend outings.

As of the 19 November 2024, more than 8,700 eligible vehicles had registered for C4C.
