Clean Up At Campbellfield Car Wrecker

A vehicle wrecking company must stop accepting deliveries of vehicles at its two Campbellfield sites and will be fined a total of $7,904 after it allowed leaking oils and fuels to escape.

Arara Auto Wreckers has sites in Fordson Road and Sarah Street, Campbellfield. EPA Victoria has been investigating both sites following reports oils and fuels were leaking from the car wrecks and into the storm water drain.

"Our investigations found inadequate controls to capture and retain leaking oils and fuel from the car wrecks. Without those controls the liquids were able to leak into the storm water drains which will then flow into nearby waterways," explained Acting EPA North Metropolitan Manager Mark Bannister.

"Everyone has a duty to prevent pollution, and a business that accepts car wrecks should know that it will need to be capturing and storing fluids. Instead Arara has allowed an unknown quantity to escape from not just one but two sites, so a fine is appropriate.
