Bayside Council encouraging residents to take part in Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 6 March.
"Clean Up Australia Day is a great initiative. Families, schools and local business all have an opportunity to be part of Australia's biggest clean up and by working together we can keep our communities clean, green and safe," Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.
It's good to see the Bayside community getting involved and helping to clean up our beautiful beach, parkland and waterways."
Bayside Council supports Clean Up Australia Day each year by helping site supervisors locate suitable areas as well as:
- Arranging disposal points.
- Removing hazardous or problematic material.
- Disposal and / or recycling of rubbish collected in the day.
- A snack pack and bottle of water for volunteers in a reusable bag.
Clean Up Australia groups volunteering in Bayside have removed tonnes of waste from our foreshore areas, bushland and parks.
Across Bayside, the top three rubbish offenders were cigarette butts, PET bottles and glass bottles.
This year's Clean Up Australia Day will be a COVID-safe affair and compliant with State restrictions.
Additionally, this year Council is also supporting Georges River Paddle Against Plastic, in partnership with Georges Riverkeeper, to clean up Scarborough Ponds and Tonbridge Creek which is an important fish nursery for the Georges River.
