Seven sites have already been nominated and registered for Clean Up Australia Day in the Bayside Local Government Area with more expected over the next few days.
"It's not too late to register a site, or join a team if residents, clubs or organisations want to join in or sign up to lend a hand," Bayside Mayor Joe Awada said.
"Last year in Bayside our volunteers collected, and council disposed of, approximately 3,000 kg of waste on the day.
"Council will also be contacting all registered sites to ensure they have their clean-up kit, are familiar with the area and know where to leave the waste for Council to collect at the end of the day," Mayor Awada said.
Bayside Council staff will be on site this year helping coordinate activities, give advice, hand out water and muesli bars to volunteers and assist in the collection process.
The registered sites to date are:
- Peter Depena Reserve, Dolls Point Beach & Georges River Sailing Club, Sans Souci (x 2 groups)
- Ramsgate Life Saving Club, Ramsgate Beach
- Ida Street Creek & Parklands, Sans Souci (x 2 groups)
- Discovery Point Park & Cooks River, Wolli Creek
- McDonald's, Bexley
- Cooks River, Mascot
- Plane Spotting Beach, Mascot
Last year Clean Up Australia was a major success, with Council collecting approximately 3,000 kg of waste and litter that Clean Up Australia volunteers picked up on the day.
