Bushland between Ranfurly Way and the Murray River near the Merbein boat ramp is set for a major clean up as part of Mildura Rural City Council's 2022 Clean Up Australia Day community event.
To be held on Sunday 6 March between 9.30am and 11.00am, the event is not only a chance to tidy up one of our region's popular natural areas, but an opportunity to meet like-minded people in a community setting.
Councillor for Environment and Sustainability Jason Modica said Council's annual Clean Up Australia Day events provided a host of benefits for the community.
"This is a great way to remove rubbish and collect items that could be recycled along this stretch of bushland, which will not only help beautify it, but help raise awareness in our community," Cr Modica said.
"Those taking part in the event may also learn more about a site they may never have visited before, all the while being part of a community event with like-minded residents."
People wishing to take part can register by visiting www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/join-a-clean-up and searching for 'Merbein Boat Ramp and Riverfront'.
Participants can access the Clean Up Australia Day event on the day by turning right off Ranfurly Way as they're heading from Mildura to Merbein (signage will be erected on the road), and parking near the Merbein boat ramp.
Cr Modica also encouraged residents to look for other Clean Up Australia Day events in the Sunraysia area using the link above.
"There may be other events closer to you, or in your own local community, that you can support, and it's great to see so many local residents and community groups establishing their own events each year," he said.
"For example, John Burfitt has organised a Red Cliffs event at Big Lizzie this Sunday, which would be perfect for residents closer to the township."
