17 school and community groups across the Kempsey Shire organised activities for Clean Up Australia Day on 3 March, cleaning up beaches, school grounds, rivers and creeks, parks, and roadsides.
Participating organisations included:

- Kempsey Airforce Cadets
- Willawarrin Public School
- OceanWatch Australia
- Aldavilla Public School
- Kempsey lions Club
- Kaylene's family daycare
- Kempsey South McDonalds
- St Joseph's Primary
- Lenton Clean Up
- Crescent Head Public School
- South West Rocks Country Club.
The Stuarts Point and District Community Organisation organised a community wide Stuarts Point Clean Up event, with several locations prioritised, including street verges and several points along the foreshore.
The clean up was successful, with three full red bins, some objects to be recycled, and a trailer load of bigger items.
A beach clean up in the Crescent Head area collected 70kg of rubbish, including:
- Plastic bottles 35%
- Tins/cans 30%
- Glass bottles 20%
- Plastic bags/mixed plastic containers 15%
From the Torres Strait Islands, to the rainforests of Tassie, from Albany to Yungaburra and places in-between – this Clean Up Australia Day 2024 saw over 750,000 volunteers coming together to help Clean Up their local communities and environment.
It was an outstanding effort by volunteers who joined in their droves to roll up their sleeves and remove litter from our cities, rivers, beaches, and bush in a truly special day of community action.
