In 2023/2024 Mount Gambier residents sent more than 5,500 tonnes of waste to Caroline Landfill. Council will join efforts on Clean Up Australia Day to help keep our local environment tidy.
Community groups, businesses and individuals are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and get involved in Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 2 March 2025. Council is calling on the community to help make this the biggest event of its kind, as the initiative celebrates 35 years of improving and conserving the environment, one piece of litter at a time.
While our parks and gardens team work hard to keep our town looking its best, there's still a significant amount of litter that ends up in hard-to-reach places-tucked away in reserves, hidden under bushes, and scattered across less-visited areas. - City of Mount Gambier Environmental Sustainability Business Partner Aaron Izzard
"By dedicating just one hour of your time, you can make a meaningful impact in reducing litter and protecting our local environment."
Residents and local businesses are encouraged to either join one of the registered clean-up events or start their own. To register interest in leading a clean-up effort in a local reserve, visit the Clean Up Australia Day website.
Council will arrange for the collection of all rubbish and recycling bags on the day.
