Clean Up Australia This Sunday

Council is calling on the Townsville community to lend a hand to clean up Australia this Sunday, with Townsville's official event being held at Apex Park in Rasmussen.

Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said the free community event was a chance to get out and enhance the natural environment, while having fun with family and friends.

"Townsville residents are no strangers to digging deep when it comes to cleaning up especially after the recent weather event, so this event is a great chance for people to go beyond their own backyard and think about how we can all contribute to a cleaner future by coming together to lend a hand on Clean up Australia Day," Cr Greaney said.

"We are lucky to be surrounded by such a beautiful natural environment, so it's important that we all do our part to make sure it is kept clean and free of rubbish."

Division 4 Councillor Kristian Price said all the gear residents needed would be provided on the day.

"To take part in Council's Clean Up Australia Day event at Apex Park on Sunday, just come down at 8.30am with sun-safe clothing, enclosed shoes, a wide-brimmed hat and a great attitude," Cr Price said.

"Clean up bags and gloves will be provided, and we'll be handing out complimentary refreshments and a free native plant to take home as a thank you.

"As we celebrate 35 years of improving and conserving our environment through Clean Up Australia Day, help us make this the biggest clean up event ever - one piece of litter at a time.

"If you can't make it to our event, you can register your own Clean Up Australia Day event by visiting Clean Up Australia Day's website."

Lend a hand this Clean Up Australia Day by joining Townsville City Council's event at Apex Park, Rassmussen on Sunday 2 March.
