With the state election approaching, Latrobe City Council is advocating for several of our community's priorities to further enhance the prosperity of the region.
These include projects that will further transform the local economy and ensure opportunities for jobs such as a 50-thousand tonne Gippsland Material Recovery Facility in Morwell and harnessing renewable energy and hydrogen technologies to drive Latrobe City's New Energy Future.
Health and education are also a focus with Latrobe's Health and Education Clinic, which would address workforce needs in our high-demand health sector, enhance local knowledge and improve patient access and health outcomes.
Liveability and connectivity are vital for our regional City and would be supported by Residential Development Precincts in Newborough, Morwell North West and Traralgon West. The Inter-township Trail Network is an opportunity to connect Latrobe City's towns and is a fundamental element of the Gippsland Odyssey - connecting Melbourne and Phillip Island to the Gippsland Lakes.
Support is also being sort for the Traralgon Highway Bypass, Flood Recovery and Resilience Project, Traralgon East West Link and Start Up Innovation - Start up Gippsland.
Council is grateful to the Victorian Government for their investment in Stage One of the Gippsland Logistics Precinct that is currently underway. We continue to look for ongoing investment and assistance to realise the full project that will deliver a serviced industrial precinct in our City supporting local jobs into the future.
Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan is looking forward to working with the Victorian Government to deliver these vital projects for Latrobe City's future.
"Council's role leading up to the election is to enable transition, harnessing our community's aspirations to advocate for positive change.
"We have a number of opportunities for our government partners that would deliver significant opportunities and sustainable long-lasting outcomes for Latrobe. We will be working hard over the coming months to secure commitments that are fundamental to ensure our continuing evolution as a thriving regional City
"Council has welcomed major investment in the past including the GovHub, Latrobe Regional Hospital expansion and Gippsland Logistics Precinct. We hope to build on this success and seek ongoing investment and support," said Cr. O'Callaghan.
