Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen will travel to China to represent Australia at the 8th Ministerial on Climate Action (MOCA), taking place on 22-23 July 2024.
Minister Bowen will deliver a keynote address on emissions reduction and the low-carbon transition. He will meet with Ministerial counterparts to align global efforts towards the net zero transformation and build resilience to climate change.
Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said China had a critical role in driving down global emissions.
"China is both Australia's biggest trading partner and the world's biggest emitter. On this visit I will continue the Government's approach to China, which is to cooperate where we can, disagree where we must, and engage in the national interest," Minister Bowen said.
"Collaboration is crucial to address the challenges of climate change and deliver real outcomes, particularly for the Pacific family.
"I will talk with partners from around the world about how Australia can support the global net zero transformation, to create new jobs and industries for our workers and communities."
MOCA convenes climate ministers and senior officials around 40 countries to make progress on key global climate negotiations and issues.
A key emerging area of global focus is how countries' next emissions reduction commitments can send clear signals to markets for investment and encourage collective climate action.
Minister Husic will be acting Minister for Climate Change and Energy in the Minister's absence.
