Closure Of Operation Whiskey Bells At Roma

Detectives from Roma Criminal Investigation Branch have disrupted the alleged supply of dangerous drugs across the South West, as part of ongoing drug investigation Operation Whiskey Bells.

Police executed a search warrant at two Roma properties on November 25 and located drug utensils, weapons and mobile devices.

This was following a previous search warrant executed on September 3 at one of the same properties.

A 26-year-old Roma man was arrested at the scene.

He has been charged with one count of trafficking dangerous drugs and 38 counts of supply dangerous drugs and he is due to reappear before Roma Magistrates Court in January next year.

Since the beginning of this year, detectives have also charged more than 40 people on 90 charges in relation to drug possession and drug driving across Roma through Operation Whiskey Bells.

Detective Chief Inspector Garry Watts said the 11-month operation involved protracted investigations to identify the main alleged offender and disrupt the supply of dangerous drugs across the region.

"Illicit drugs have no place in our community and can have a devastating effect on a small rural community such as Roma.

"Through Operation Whiskey Bells, police have dismantled a drug distribution syndicate operating in our community and helped remove harmful drugs from the streets.

"I want to thank the community for their ongoing support in reporting suspicious behaviour to police."
