CLP Continues Support For $100 Sport Voucher Scheme

NT Government

The Finocchiaro CLP Government will continue to support youth sports participation.

Parents and carers booking in children's activities for Term 1 and 2 in 2025 can now access a $100 Sport Voucher per school-aged child, easing the cost of living and encouraging children to explore new activities.

The vouchers can be used to subsidise fees across more than 230 sports, recreation, and cultural activities available for children enrolled in urban schools.

Minister for People, Sport and Culture, Jinson Charls, is urging kids to try new activities as the new school year approaches.

"With over 230 suppliers, there are activities for everyone," said Mr Charls.

"The Sport Vouchers will ease cost of living pressures and ensure kids can keep doing the activities they love, while also encouraging them to explore new opportunities."

In addition to the Sport Vouchers, which have been available since 2013, the CLP Government will provide families with further support through two $100 Learn to Swim Vouchers per year for children under five, or those turning five but not enrolling in Transition or primary school in 2025.

This initiative, along with the CLP's new free swimming lesson scheme available to all primary school children from this year, ensures children can gain vital water safety skills particularly in the Territory, where many families seek relief from the hot.

"Water safety is so important, and by reducing the financial burden through the Learn to Swim vouchers and, and our free swimming lessons, we'll equip Territory kids with the skills they need to swim and be safe in and around the water," said Mr Charls.

In 2023-24, more than 35,700 Sport Vouchers were issued, along with more than 5,900 Learn to Swim vouchers.

Remote and regional schools will also collaborate with their communities to ensure the voucher scheme meets the specific needs of students and families in these areas.

Families who may have difficulty accessing the internet can still apply for vouchers by contacting the provider of the activity their child wants to participate in, seeking help from their child's school, or using the free internet services available at public libraries.
