The Finocchiaro CLP Government continues to make Alice Springs and Central Australia a priority, as it marks 2025 as a year of action, certainty and security.
This week, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture Gerard Maley, Minister for Prevention of Domestic Violence Robyn Cahill, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Community Development Steve Edgington, Treasurer Bill Yan and Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment Joshua Burgoyne are in Alice Springs to underpin the government's commitment to reduce crime, rebuild the economy and restore our lifestyle.
Mr Maley is committed to restoring our unique lifestyle and the cattle industry is the backbone of the bush, driving jobs and supporting communities across the Territory.
"I'm pleased to be in Central Australia, visiting hardworking pastoralists on their properties to see firsthand the work they do, hear their stories, and understand any challenges they're facing," he said.
"It's important that we listen and support them however we can."
Ms Cahill joined Mr Burgoyne to meet with homeless, legal and DFSV frontline providers and workers, as well as attending the night patrollers meeting and joining Circuit Breaker night staff in action on the streets of Alice Springs.
"This is a strong and resilient community, and our CLP Government has shown we are dedicated to reviving and supporting the region," said Ms Cahill.
Mr Edgington is in Alice Springs to celebrate Community Housing Central Australia and the increase of the portfolio of properties under the Social Housing Accelerator Project.
Along with Mr Burgoyne and Mr Yan, he will be championing a new program designed to accelerate housing availability across the region.
"This is a partnership with the NT Government, the Commonwealth and Community Housing Central Australia to deliver a reliable $2.5 million investment into the housing supply and offer economic benefits to the Territory's economy via a viable construction program - a win-win for the residents of Alice Springs," said Mr Edgington.
Mr Yan will attend the International Women's Day breakfast hosted by the Women's Museum of Australia on Friday morning.
"Women have shaped history with grit and determination - today we celebrate the women who have been pivotal to developing the Red Centre with their strength, courage and resilience paving a pathway for younger generations to follow," said Mr Yan.
Mr Burgoyne has been back in Alice Springs this week liaising with community members and local businesses on matters affecting his electorate.
"One of the first action items on the list was joining Minister Cahill on a patrol of the town after dark to see firsthand the effectiveness of the new Circuit Breaker program in Alice Springs," said Mr Burgoyne.
"It's great to have so many of my ministerial colleagues in town this week, ensuring that Alice Springs is a priority of this government."
The CLP Government recently announced a new flight route between Alice Springs and Cairns, which showcases our commitment to making the Northern Territory more accessible and attractive as a world-class destination.
"Over the summer holiday period we increased police numbers, provided free access to the local pool, and we have also invested $27 million for sport, lifestyle, cultural, tourism and community infrastructure," said Mr Maley.
