The Finocchiaro CLP Government is committed to enhancing the lives of veterans and their families through the newly established Veterans Health and Wellbeing Grant program.
Across the Northern Territory, veterans and their families will benefit from increased support aimed at improving their health, wellbeing, and social connections.
Minister for Veterans, Jinson Charls, today announced that 11 organisations would share in $80,000 in funding to deliver programs and activities that support current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and their families.
"The Northern Territory is home to one of the highest per capita veteran populations in Australia, with around 20,000 veterans and their families calling our Territory home," said Mr Charls.
"The Veteran Community Health and Wellbeing Grants are part of Operation Thrive - the Northern Territory action plan to support and strengthen the veteran community as part of the 2023 Defence Veterans Strategy."
The grants provide funding of up to $10,000 per recipient to support activities that foster community connection and enhance the wellbeing of veterans.
Initiatives funded through this inaugural round include fishing trips, coffee catch-ups, AFL training, canine therapy, mental fitness and resilience programs, and an International Women's Day event recognising the role of women in the military.
"The events and activities funded through this grant will help improve the physical and emotional wellbeing of veterans, create opportunities for social engagement, and ensure that our veteran community feels valued and connected," said Mr Charls.
