The Finocchiaro CLP Government is proud to sponsor the 2025 Northern Australia Food Futures Conference, recognising the agriculture sector is a key driver of economic growth in the Territory.
Food Futures is Australia's leading event on agricultural development in the north.
The biennial conference is being held today and tomorrow (8-9 April 2025) at the Darwin Convention Centre, bringing together industry leaders, researchers, and government representatives to explore new opportunities for northern agriculture.
Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries Gerard Maley said: "Our CLP Government promised 2025 would be a year of action, certainty, and security, and we're delivering on that commitment by backing the Territory's agriculture industry with strong investment, research-driven innovation, and exploring new market opportunities."
"The Territory produces over 50% of Australia's mangoes and is home to a range of crops, including jackfruit, dragon fruit, garlic, dates, citrus, and passionfruit. We're also leading the way in developing new industries such as cotton, hemp, pongamia, and agave," said Mr Maley.
"Agriculture is a key part of the Territory's economy, and by supporting industry-led research and investment, we are helping to create jobs, drive productivity, and open new markets."
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will host two ancillary events on 10 April, including a field day at the Coastal Plains Research Farm and a guided tour of the Berrimah Farm Science Precinct.
Other events include an NT Farmers tour of the Rapid Creek Markets on 12 April, showcasing organic and tropical produce, and an "Instagram tour Territory Style" hosted by the Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia, highlighting local produce and industry.
"Our government is committed to rebuilding the economy and restoring the Territory's iconic lifestyle by supporting industries that create jobs and drive investment," said Mr Maley.
"A strong and growing agriculture sector is central to that goal, ensuring the Territory's primary industries continue to expand, innovate, and secure new market opportunities."
