Coalition To Contribute To Burnie Health Hub

  • An elected Dutton Coalition Government will contribute $8 million to establish the Burnie Health Hub.

This will form part of a $24 million investment, including funding from the State Government and private sector.

The integrated health hub will incorporate a Medicare Urgent Care and GP clinic, a pharmacy open 7 days a week, State Government health services and not for profit wrap-around services.

Local brothers, GP Dr Jerome Muir-Wilson and pharmacist Jack Muir-Wilson have been instrumental to bringing this project to life.

Shadow Minister for Health, Senator Anne Ruston said, "This new funding will ensure that the Burnie Health Hub will be a key local health facility, driving positive health outcomes for the community and ensuring more timely access to essential care."

The Braddon GP bulk billing rate has plummeted from 88.2% under the Coalition to just 83.4% under Labor, resulting in less affordable access to GP services in Burnie.

"The Burnie Health Hub will change this and restore affordable access to community healthcare services to bridge the gap created by Labor's failures," Senator Ruston said.

Liberal candidate for Braddon, Mal Hingston said, "Already, the Coalition has made significant strides to support North West Tasmania through the commitment of an Urgent Care Clinic in Burnie. However, we recognise that more needs to be done. Under Labor, access and affordability of healthcare in Braddon have sharply declined."

"I am committed to getting access to local healthcare services back on track," Mr Hingston said.

Only a Dutton Coalition Government will ensure all Tasmanians have access to quality, affordable healthcare, no matter where they live.
